An Annotated Translation of the Sogdian Marriage Contracts in the Documents of Mount Mugh

Abstract：The Sogdian marriage contract No.3，together with the accompanying guarantee letter No.4 was found on Mount Mugh some hundred kilometers east of Samarkand during the excavation of the Soviet archaeologists in 1934，and remains the longest legal text available in the Sogdian language.Since 1960，scholars have extensively interpreted the contract and fruitful results have been achieved.This paper，based on Livshits’s second annotated edition of the Sogdian marriage contract，deals with collated edition of Ilya Yakubovich and differentiates two versions by marking commentaries，thus paving the way for further study.Furthermore，the paper translates the documents into Chinese and comments on certain issues on the basis of the previous research results related.
